The stage has been set, with almost 4500 followers,converging at the MMRDA Complex Grounds, at Bandra(East),Mumbai. Annaji,began a three-day fast for a strong Lokpal Bill at Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) ground here, today his condition improved slightly. He has resolved to go ahead with his fast with a grit and augur that bespeaks of a freedom-fighter,at 74years, and still going strong at mind.

Today,the media persons were briefed after Hazare's medical check-up by Dr Ratna Malhotra, team Anna member Manish Sisodia stated,"His fever had plunged to 100 degrees this morning from 102 degrees last night." This means, that Anna, is not giving up hope yet on his mainstay issues, just for the struggle he is having with health. Sisodiaji, added that; Anna's pulse rate came down to 72 and blood pressure to 170/94.

Team Anna, were seemingly looking rather stirred; that Anna may not go ahead far with his quite fluctuant condition. Weather in the MMRDA grounds, has shown that cold wind has settled in Bandra(East). Shanti Bhushan, Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal , were seen charting plans briefly on the course of events. Maharashtra brings out rulebook to ease implementation of RTE Act

To standardise implementation of the Right to Education Act (RTE) and to dispel misconceptions surrounding it, the government has decided to issue a rulebook to schools across Maharashtra with easy to follow guidelines.

Though it was introduced in 2009, the state has now devised the draft rules to simplify the jargon-loaded Act.
“Many schools have misunderstood the Act or are confused about its implementation. Earlier, we had issued government regulations (GRs) that sought to implementation of certain sections of the Act; however, confusion prevailed,” said Balasaheb Thorat, minister for primary and secondary education.

The draft rules have been uploaded on the education department website and are open for public suggestions or objections till November 19.
Scrutinising the feedback, the government will convey the same to the Centre and chalk out the next course of action. “We may come up with revised draft rules,” said Thorat.

According to the minister, many doubts about the Act still persist. “It’s unclear whether the onus of implementing the Act will be on a block education officer or a deputy director of public instruction,” he explained. Then there is this indisputable fact about 30 per cent students being first-generation learners.

“More importantly, the condition of schools in cities and villages varies. This factor also needs to be looked into,” Thorat added.
Lamenting what he termed “flawed” priorities, Thorat said prioritising primary education was overdue. “Unfortunately, higher education gets investments and priorities, whereas primary education is pushed to the corner. This should change,” he asserted. The state has also put the onus of implementation on the Centre, saying it should extend ‘sufficient’ monetary support.

“Unless the Union government releases the funds required for the implementation of the Act, the Act will not be feasible,” said Thorat.The Centre will incur 68 per cent of the implementation cost while the state will bear the rest.

It has been June 28th,2011; and almost Fifteen days since Primary Municipal Schools re-opened. I'd like to show you the work that is showcased in the above click-link. it is one of the attempt wherein, underpriviledged schoolers at Dharavi Municipal school are receiving English-based Communicative Learning and improving on the spoken-written areas of ENGLISH.
Children from the world's largest slumming-area are engrossed into,"CARTOONING," and learning our version of "HINDI-ENGLISH, or Hinglish," through Cartooning approaches. Its both fun and also a greater challenge to the volunteers of,"Teach For India" who are all "TECHIE-GRADS" from the Canada,USA, UK etc.
Now this small tribe of "EDOOCATIONEERS," as i would like to call them are working-up miracles in the albeit decrepit classrooms that lack only the basic chalkboard necessities, although the government teachers are well qualified. But, what is lagging behind still is the scenario of "FLUENCY in ENGLISH," understanding and EXPRESSIONS; which is being worked into by the use of TECHNOLOGY and MASS-MEDIA,OHP's ,SKYPE, WEBCASTING, COMPUTERS as a wider VISUAL-Medium to enter the younger learner's mindsteads and reviving albeit revolutionising the whole gamut of learning ENGLISH in a novel different way. They have achieved, that MONTESSORY-thought of "PLAYFUL LEARNING-TEACHING," and guiding the future citizens of India's largest slum-area. Kudos , to all the efforts for the PROJECT-ENGLISH undertaken by "Teach For India" Edooo-cationeers. Sometimes, i do think that , the world is a small village altogether and we all are part of that. Teach for India, is making its presence felt in that aspect.
"Pratham," another NGO, has been contributing in Primary Municipal Schools, for English-learning, and also learning History through its School Kits. Though lesser in presence, than TFI; it has not yet attained that path-breaking success as done by the Edoocationeers of TEACH FOR INDIA. Their zeal and zest has to be emulated and learnt. The teaching material as also English Language Testing of READING-Writing is undertaken at the Classroom level for Standards III and IVth. What is strikingly, seen, is the close-knit camaraderie in helping each other in joyously exploring the pathways to learning of English wherever there is presence of TEACH FOR INDIA turnouts.
I would be happy to,"MENTOR" and help the whole team of TFI, at DHARAVI & SHAHUNAGAR Schools given the chance to improvise with them newer path-breaking methods to learning dynamically fun-filled and explorative levels in ENGLISH language and spoken Linguistics. I know a few of them ---MILIND NAGDA(Director-TFI,Shahunagar Team), ARNAB DATTA (Calgary Canada educated,TFI-FELLOW); and NATASHA RAJGORE (ex-B.Tech,now TFI-Fellow). I came across these GOOD-THINGS, written down by VISPI BHAVNAGRI, in the year 1990; that was almost ten years after he had left for HEAVENLY ABODE. His book, supposed to be written with help of angel-spirits during his meditative state, is aptly titled as,"The LAWS OF THE SPIRIT WORLD--Part I, II, III and IV," and it has all the good words, thoughts channelised by his guiding spirits.

Tirumala: Distance: 8 Kms.

	This holiest of the 108 pilgrim centers, Tirumala Hills snugly nestles in the Eastern Ghats surrounded by hills. Mystical vibration surrounds everyone in the chanting of the dawn invocation known as "Suprabhatham" to the Lord, in the twinkling of the temple bells, in the fragrance of sandal paste and camphor, in the heavy, smoky scent of incense - all these blending together to raise the restless mind to an experience of intense spiritual awareness. The origin of the deity is said to be pre-historic, but the central shrine was build in the 4th century A.D. by the Greater Pallavas. The Lord of the Seven Hills has been referred to in the Rig Veda, the oldest literature - extent. The Venkatachala Mahathyam contains lore from twelve Mahapuranas.

Tirupati : Distance 0.4 kms

The founder of Govindarajaswami Temple was the famous Vaishnava teacher Ramanuja. This temple is situated in the heart of the temple town. The earliest records belongs to the year 1235 A.D. ascribe the foundation of the shrine to Ramanuja. An inscription of 1456 AD states that Govindaraja, Sridevi and Bhudevi were given a holy bath with water obtained from a tank built by Ramanuja. We learn from epigraph of 1475 AD that oil and betel leaves offered to Lord Venkateswara were being bought down from Tirumala to be offered to Govindaraja at the time of his Tirumanjanam Abishekam on the day of Krittika star in the month of Krittika. The Govindaraja temple received wider attention with the advent of Vijayanagara rule over Tondamandalam. The Govindaraja temple came in for greater patronage during the rule of the Saluva dynasty of Vijayanagara. A certain Appapillai built a mantapa in front of the kitchen in 1506 AD where the devotees drop their offerings.

Sila Thoranam: Distance: 24 Kms.

This is a rare Geological Rock Arch. This is only one of its kind in the whole of Asia. Only two other such Arches are known to exist in the world, namely the Rain Bow Arch of Utah in U.S.A. and Arch cut through the Radiant Quartzsite in U.K. This is one of the rarest Geological facts of our country and the age of the rock is estimated to be 2500 million years and Geologists compute the age of arch as 1500 million years. This is also a rare Geological feature called Eparchean Unconformity. This natural arch is supposed to have formed due the intensified weathering and erosion of stream along and has withstood the torque of nature. This is a Natural Geological phenomenon. Its length is 25 feet and height is 10 feet. Devotees believe that Lord Venkateshwara the presiding deity of this sacred hill appeared through this as a swayambhu and took up his abode at the temple, which is past a kilometer away. Pilgrims must make it a point to visit the wonder of the world during their Tirumala trip. No buses are available, a private vehicle or a 20 minute walk from Sri Varahaswami Temple brings you there.

Chandragiri : Distance: 12 Kms.

This historic place is 12 kms from Tirupati. A beautiful fort was built in 1000AD and was developed by Saluva Kings of the Vijanagara Empire. Raja Mahal and Rani Mahal are fine specimens of architecture (no timber is used in the entire construction). Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya, who distinguished himself by his invaluable offerings to Sri Venkateswara was a frequent visitor to Chandragiri. The replicas of the statues of Sri Krishnadevaraya and his consorts (originals inside Tirumala Temple) are kept here. The museum inside Raja Mahal has fine collections of bronze and granite sculptures. Town buses are available from Tirupati Bus Stand every ten minutes. Be prepared for a 20 minutes walk from Chandragiri town center to the fort. The sound and light shown is another added attractive at the fort.

Alamelu Managapuram

Distance: 4 Kms.

Tiruchanur, popularly known as Chirtanur, is a village situated three miles to the south of Tirupati. This village was known as Tiruchchogionur and Tiruchchukanur in earlier times and one late inscription calls it Srisukagrama. Trichanur is of great importance in the history of the Tirupati region, particularly for the evaluation of religious activity therein. This region comes under the influence of vaishnavism as early as the eight century. Alamelu Mangapuram is a tamil name and means a woman standing on the, Floating Lotus flow. After Mahalaskhmi's departure from Vaikunta due to Bhrighu Maharshis rash action, Mahavishnu was unable to bear the pangs of separation. Mahavishnu descended to Bhuloka and wandered for years here and there and finally came to know that Mahalakshmi is in Tapodan in the lotus of Padmasarovar of Tiruchanoor and after deep penance for 12 long years mother Lakshmi, gave darshan to Balaji on a red lotus flower.

Kapilatheertham: Distance: 2 Kms.

This is a small temple situated about two miles to the north of Tirupati town on the eastern bank of the Kapiltheertham tank, which is also known as Alwar Theertham. The structures were erected by certain Rayan - Rajendrasolan alias Brahmrayan the head of the village Kottu, in ancient times Tirupati is called as Kottur. The last inscription dated 1865 AD mentions that Mahanth Dharma Das renovated the steps and mantaps of the Kapilatheertham tank. The earliest of the records mentioned above does not mention the name of the God. Kapileswara and his temple as such comes to be mentioned for the first time in 1563 AD. This is much sought after the largely visited saivate temple in Tirupati. The sight of archamurthi sivalinga with its diamond studded triple lines on the forehead standing for vibhuti marks raises the hands in reverence instantly on entering the mukha mantapa. This is the only saiva temple in Tirupati. The temple enshrines Sri. Kapileshwaraswamy. Waterfalls in this place are an attractive sight (especially in rainy season). One can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, as this place is located a little away from the town. City buses and autos are the means of conveyance to reach Kapilatheertham.

Sri Kalahasti : Distance: 40 Kms.

'Sri Kalahasti' is one of the ancient sacred places of our country. It is believed that many saints and holy persons attained ' mukthi' at this unique and important Siva Kshetra, which is well known for its religious importance and philosophical greatness. It is claimed that a visit to this holy shrine by a devotee would earn him the 'peace', 'happiness' and 'prosperity' with the blessings and divine grace of Lord Siva. This religious centre is situated in beautiful and natural setting. The presiding deity of the 'puniya' kshetra is 'Sri Kalahasteswara'. The Siva linga of Sri Kalahasti is one of the five supreme Lingas representing the five great fundamental ' Elements' namely (Appu) Water, (Tejos) Fire, (Vayu) Air, (Akash) Sky, (Prithvi) Earth. Lord Siva has taken the form of 'Vayu-Linga' in this temple to bless devotees during all four 'yougas'.

Srinivasa Mangapuram : Distance: 11 Kms.

The Kalyan Venkateswara is a replica of the main deity of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala situated towards western side of Tirupati, around 10 kms, on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River. The reason behind the construction of the temple here is an ethic that Lord Venkateswara married Padmavathi. While trekking to Tirumala hills he wants to visit saint called Agastya, and the blessings of the saint and as per his advise Lord Venkateswara stayed beneath the hills for six months. When Lord decides to go back to Tirumala he gave two boons to the devotees that whoever could not be able to do darshan at Tirumala can worship me at Srinivasa Mangapuram the similar moksha can be attained by the devotee. Whoever faces hindrances regarding their marriage can come and worship him, they can overcome their problems. Thus the lord is called as Kalyana Venkateswara. This temple was in dilapidated condition due to natural disasters and external aggression of Yavanas, under such circumstances Chinna Tirumalayya renovated the temple and conducted all the temple rituals as per Agamasastra. This information is provided in Rock pillar inscription inscribed during the period of 22/03/1540

Kanipakkam : Distance: 60 Kms.

The renowned Varasiddi Vinayaka Temple is situated here. The temple is 1000 years old. It is believed that Vinayaka incarnated as ‘Swayambhu’ here. According to Stalapurana, three brothers who were deaf, dumb and blind were digging a well. At that time blood came from a black stone. That blank stone is Vinayaka idol. Due to touch of blood, the three brothers lost their deformities. The idol is growing every year which is manifested in change of ornaments every year. There is a strong belief that the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled and hence called Varasiddi. The temple is famous for pramanams. Many of the people perform 'Pooja' for their new vehicles here to avoid untoward incidents.

The Sri Venkateswara Zoological park

Distance : 12 Kms.

The Sri Venkateswara Zoological park is located in the outskirts of the world famous temple town of Tirupati. It is well connected by both road and rail. The nearest airstrip is in Renigunta and the nearest international airport is in Chennai The message of conservation of nature with all its diversity is conveyed by highlighting the role of animal and plant life in Indian culture, mythology and literature. It also reminds the modern man of the importance given to wild life by our ancestors. The unique aspect of this zoo is that all the animals that have been exhibited in this zoo are those mentioned in our ancient epics and manuscripts such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Panchatantra etc. The main areas and enclosures in the zoo have been named after famous locations and personalities mentioned in Indian mythology and epics like the Ramayana & the Mahabharata Few other parks can boast of such a scenic location and a diversity of endemic flora and fauna in vast natural and simulated enclosures.

CLINTON: It depends upon what the meaning of the word is means. If is means is, and never has been, that's one thing, if it means, there is none, that was a completely true statement.

Clinton for obvious reasons chose not to answer "Yes" or "No." Notwithstanding, an analysis of Clinton's statement suggests that he was truthful. If "is" means never has been, then "is" equals nothing or "is" = 0. If "is" means there is none then 0 = "is." The propo¬sition "is" = 0 and 0 = "is" is, indeed, a truthful statement. Clinton told the truth, but the truth about what?
The following exchange between a mother and daughter demonstrates The Land of Is technique.
Mom: Your teacher called this afternoon and told me that she suspected you of cheating on an exam. Do you cheat on your exams?
Daughter: I spend two hours a night studying. I study more than anybody I know. People who don't study are the people who have to cheat on exams. I study all the time. Don't accuse me of cheating!
Mom: I'm not accusing you of cheating.
Daughter: Yes, you are!
Mom asked her daughter a simple Yes or No question. Her daughter chose not to respond with a simple "Yes" or "No" answer but, instead, took her mother to the Land of Is by using Misdirection. The daughter changed the focus of the question from her cheating on exams to the amount of time she studies each day. The daughter ended her response with an accusation, which put Mom on the defensive. The topic was no longer about cheating but about Mom making unwarranted accusations. If the daughter cheated on her exams, she would rather talk about her mother making unwarranted accusations than the topic of her cheating on exams. Failure to answer Yes or No questions with "Yes" or "No" answers is a strong indicator of deception.
Mom could have prevented her daughter from going to the Land of Is by first recognizing that the technique was being used and then redirecting the conversation back to the initial topic of inquiry. For example:
Mom: Your teacher called this afternoon and told me that she suspected you of cheating on an exam. Do you cheat on your exams?
Daughter: I spend two hours a night studying. I study more than anybody I know. People who don't study are the people who have to cheat on exams. I study all the time. Don't accuse me of cheating!
Mom: I know you study hard and get good grades. That's not what I asked you. I asked you whether or not you cheat on your exams. Do you cheat on your exams?
Redirecting the conversation back to the initial question forced her daughter to answer the question, "Do you cheat on your exams?" Her daughter must answer "Yes" or "No" or take her mother back to the Land of Is. Failure to answer a Yes or No question with a "Yes" or "No" answer is not conclusive proof of deception, but the probability of deception does increase significantly. If her daughter did not cheat on her exams, answering "No" would not be difficult. The truth is simple. The truth is direct. The truth is not complicated.
The following exchange demonstrates how her daughter would have answered the question if she did not cheat on her exams.
Mom: Your teacher called this afternoon and told me that she suspected you of cheating on an exam. Do you cheat on exams?
Daughter: No. I don't cheat on exams but I know a lot of other kids who do cheat to get good grades.
The daughter answered the Yes or No question with a simple "No" response. Additionally, the daughter was not afraid to talk about other people who do cheat. Truthful people are not afraid to talk about the topic in question; whereas, liars usually want to distance themselves from topics that pose a threat. The book Psychological Narrative Analysis: A Professional Method to Detect Deception in Written and Oral Communications contains a comprehensive list of verbal cues that signal deception.
In another example, Dad suspects his son is using drugs. The best way for parents to find out whether or not their kids are drinking or using drugs is to ask them a direct question.
Dad: Are you using drugs?
Son: Taking drugs is really stupid. Besides, I don't have time to do drugs. I'm either at school or football practice.

Dad: I know you spend a lot of time at school and at football practice. That's not the question I asked. I asked you if you use drugs. Do you use drugs?

A Quick Brown fox jumped on the boat to cross the overFLOWING Yamuna river. Sources said that ,"Its most fortunate for the river to have a Quick brown fox cross-over it." Onlookers clapped as the Quick Brown fox made that effort upto mid-stream. Then a calamity struck in the form of a rushing stream water. The brown boat that the Quick Brown fox was in could not bear the onslaught of the rushing waters and resulted in the boat overturning.

Now the Quick Brown Fox, was in deepest of the waters. It had no single place for hiding. The water was closing in upto its waist and fast jostling for reaching its neck too. The Quick Brown Fox was not an avid swimmer, as it had never cared to learn swimming whilst at School or College, or even University. Yet now there was adversity right before the eyes of everyone to see. The poor Quick Brown Fox could not think of anything nor pull an ace up its sleeve to save the situation. It had never learnt anything in its whole life to swim against the tide. Now ,blashpemy prevailed; and none on the river banks could save it.

Suddenly out of nowhere, a floating leaf was sent in by the caring white DOVEY, which had a Big black ant on it standing with a rope rightfully to rope-in the Quick Brown Fox.

As nature would have it, the Quick Brown Fox , as it was known person to sneer everyone did not give in to this ruse of being saved. it was much a chagrin for its prestige to be saved by an Ant sent by the DOVEY. Now, this wasn't any Lovey-Dovey situation that DOvey could have seemingly handled out single-handedly. So to say, the Chief Minister came in his own helicopter, chartered by the State Government to rightfully assess on this grave agape situation. He said,standing precariously on the riverbank, "Whatever was to happen, did happen and was an ACT of GOD; now we are sending in the whole Paratroopers regiment that saved Mumbai from the terror attack of 09/11...or whatever !! They are on their way any moment and will definitely save the Quick Brownie Foxy. I also announce, Rs.1 Lack..as pension for the next of the Quick Brown Fox family, if we are unable to save him." All the News Channels were covering this event LIVE, and Hailed his majesty, the chief minister's prompt announcement of the RELIEF to a fox that was drowning.

Lastly, a chamatkar happened; as the Quick Brown Fox desperately started to catch the rope sent from the helicopter and dangled precariously above the water. The Paramilitary Troopers of the 7th Queen's Regiment quickly muscled in to heave-ho the Quick Brown Fox up to the Helicopter. Thus , the Fox was ultimately saved. The Chief Minister now announced,"Oh, it was the dreaded opposition who did all this."

A Time for a great dream

Once upon a time, as the time went by, there was a great prince in a great wonderland "ETHOS". His name was Prince "Gunakaar." His Kingdom was aptly named,"GUNAGADH",and the only thing that this young prince, aged now 45 years liked was to dream about new ways to see things differently. For example,

If there was, a pain in the stomach; he would see it as "A way to produce more creativity. He termed it as a PAINFUL CREATIVE PANG...", rather than the age-old thinking that he must have eaten a lot that made his belly go bonkers and painful.

He had a young creative VAZIR, named "Gunaseva"; who ably aided and helped his master "Gunakaar" whenever the master got stuck with any problem. One fine day it so happened , that as the young prince had gone to the darbar, a fakir came with a problem.
The Fakir's name was,"AADI" and he knew that the young prince would never turn him down. The sage started to narrate his problem,

"Dear prince, the more i start to think, the more my fears multiply for something. I start to get fearful and then stop thinking. I also have become so weak thinking about it that constantly my mind gets pre-occupied and i have no time to worship God Shiva."

Do kindly solve my problem as my life is turning painful and unbearable day by day.

Gunakaar turned to Gunaseva and said,"My dear fella, help this sage now."

Gunaseva said," O Wise one, do two things everyday. One do not think of the problem that is pestering you in the most traditional way, but involve many more ways to reach it. Secondly, do not think alone, and share it with as many minds as possible; this way your problem will become lighter and the burden bearable. Try it and you will find more peace of mind."

Sage AADI, said" Thank you, god bless you two." and saying this went on his way.

Many a times, I am asked , whether I am doing my thing correctly; that too by others ! Namely, my second child, Shivansh,aged 7years and in Std.Ist always asks me when I come back from town,"When are you going to your next class ?" That's because , he's seen me taking a Coaching Class lecture for Grade Xth [English subject] in the nearby Dahisar[West]. The same question is asked again and again, each day,by my spouse,"When is your Class ? Are you not going to teaching in the Coaching Class today? Have you no work today (sometimes sarcastically, as if i were the only one left in this world who doesn't know what to do whence)? When is the last time that you took responsibility for your actions ? When was the last time that you brought something, that too without my asking for it in the first place ?" You have again not come to the dinner or Lunch [On Sunday Afternoon] at my first call !!!!!
   You are always busy, working on the computer , writing things that are unimportant to this Family ? Have you gone outta your mind as to not answer me at the first instance , and do my bidding is the frequent threat put out by my spouse on me. To this, i always meekly have replied,"I always do your bidding, madam,well the computer takes time to safely close down and thence only can i leave it. If any program is suddenly ejected then harm comes to the computer; or it could be infected with an virus attack as i am on the internet always posting articles, just as this one; and also extracting informations from the Google Search engine."
   To which she always adds an immediate nonchalant reply,"Your family is great in such excuses, but none of this is going to affect, nay fool me ; for i come from a great family who all know the values of time in their life. You are the only numb-skull, to whom i married; had i married someone else, it would have made my life a heaven on earth."
   With these brief , interludes growing on in their normal course of my life , albeit every day; shall we say as unavoidable bickerings, so much so that i am now hard-pressed to say that it would not be arguably untrue that i am living my life on a razor-sword edge. If we tend to analyse the above, from an "NLP" or "Neuro-Linguistic Programming Techniques" based ways, then it could be seen ; that everyone who is in touch with you in your daily life, stresses you out for doing their own biddings.Right from your son,spouse, friends, neighbors,colleagues,etc. There is one thing , however, in common , to all of them; and that is the following unknowingly of a few NLP-Pre-suppositions, like---"My Map is not your territory," " My Map is distinct from yours, to your map i do not agree always," "My ways in life and also Living the Life are greater that those of yours," "Whatever i do as a spouse or tell you is the ONLY TRUTH TO BE DONE, and followed by my commands."
   Counseling of such persons who do not adhere to the NLP techniques , are grossly dictatorial in nature, live life at their own rulebook modes, make it difficult to adjust with them. It then gets down with your nerves , and sometimes you are prone to manic-depression attacks which are similar to mild heart attack. Whats your comment ? Bilingual people process certain words faster than others

The ability to speak a second language isn’t the only thing that distinguishes bilingual people from their monolingual counterparts—their brains work differently, too. Research has shown, for instance, that children who know two languages more easily solve problems that involve misleading cues. A new study published in Psychological Science reveals that knowledge of a second language—even one learned in adolescence—affects how people read in their native tongue. The findings suggest that after learning a second language, people never look at words the same way again.

Eva Van Assche, a bilingual psychologist at the University of Ghent in Belgium, and her colleagues recruited 45 native Dutch-speaking students from their university who had learned English at age 14 or 15. The researchers asked the participants to read a collection of Dutch sentences, some of which included cognates—words that look similar and have equivalent meanings in both languages (such as “sport,” which means the same thing in both Dutch and English). They also read other sentences containing only non-cognate words in Dutch.

Van Assche and her colleagues recorded the participants’ eye movements as they read. They found that the subjects spent, on average, eight fewer milliseconds gazing at cognate words than control words, which suggests that their brains processed the dual-language words more quickly than words found only in their native language.

“The most important implication of the study is that even when a person is reading in his or her native language, there is an influence of knowledge of non-dominant second language,” Van Assche notes. “Becoming a bilingual changes one of the people’s most automatic skills.” She plans to investigate next whether people who are bilingual also process auditory language information differently. “Many questions remain,” she says.

Once a wise old monk of China stumbled upon the path that led to a Barber shop in India. He went into the shop. The barber was pleased to give the monk a hair-cut.But,seeing no tract of hair ; he quipped-" I'm sorry sir, i cannot help you out maybe when your hair is old enough to be grown then please do come again. I wont charge you anything."

The monk left blessing the Barber,"As you wish.Blessed Soul."

Next morning,a line of young-monks awaited before the Barber.
He was surprised and asked,"What brings you here , O greatly blessed ones." The Monk who was the youngest and greatly infront at the line quipped,"Your eyes twinkled with joy whence you attended upon our Holy-one of the Monastery. He has asked us to come down and see the joy in your eyes again." Saying this, they all blessed him and went away.

Next day, a newspaper boy came in for a haircut. The Barber gave him the haircut and said," I'm doing this for community sake." Next day, whence the barber opened the door, he found a thank-you note with a pile of Magazines. The note read--"For the interest of the community;that visits you everyday."

"A Fresh Mind"

One fine morning ,I began,

To doodle with words, You too can,

A Pen is mightier than the sword, They said.

And broke all ground all-day; Till they all fell.

I minced no rhyme , for reason did not fallow;

The great gobbledy-gook of Time was the Chief Guest to borrow.

I hated all and fear'd none, for reason could forthwith burn,

A hole in many a pockets or in Learned minds;

To fathom deeper this bespectacled-line.

Verse or worst, we always bare,

No speakers today will do well to dare.

Mine is a rhythmic doodling divine,

Of nectar and honey, not shrews berry biscuits designed,

No juicy cake , that I'd cut for occasions ordered;

Nor Christmas presents , found in Santa Claus larder.

Yet gooder is better, than the very best,

If I may so , now let it rest.

For reasons come and reasons go;

But galloping years that put white-eyebrows.

And pestering wives, neighbors, friends , colleagues all fine,

To give thine morning, a Lemonade-twist entwined.

The Youth fervor , always dies down young

For reasons are not seen , as seasons return.

I oft, have felt my pocket burn;

To explain this verse as verily you yearn,

May the God give you enough brains,

To cow me down till the next season rains.

Would you or will you, enjoy your heart's fill;

To say good Bye , yet to a mongrel ill.

Or buy that Bunny-rabbit toy; for your sick friend's boy.

I'd ask though , with writing zest ;

Don't though put me yet on a Sessional Test.

I'd love you, joke and all;

To answers for every cat that called.

And Every mouse that squirmed , At the mention

Of his Cheese dimension being turned.

Hurry, with such a flurry of haste is waste;

For I'd order you , a simple Coffee or chocolate cake.

Till , we meet; let these words do good-bye;

Or let the sparrows ,sing you a lullaby.

I have the honesty to be around;

And try well and hard in the deeper ground.

Good-bye to old-friends they said;

And make new one's , In this new year they felt.

I see this, and I see that;

For whatever Rhyme and Reason dwelt.

I ask no nerd , no compassion or grief,

For he will never lend me any good stead.

Welcome , to one and welcome to all;

Well that's the reason , A Fresh Mind has it all.

"Aruni had it, do you have it too"

Once upon a time, there lived another learned mind, Aruni was one among the favourite disciple of sage Maharishi Ajodhya Dhaumya, along with Upamanyu and the one named 'Veda' (Mbh 1.3). He was from the country of Panchala and was known as Aruni of Panchala.
As per epic Mahabharata (MBh 1.3), One day Aruni's Guru Maharishi Dhaumya, asked Upamanyu to go with Aruni to the field. But, Upamanyu stalled the attempt by giving an excuse that he had to tend the cows in the cow-shed and also to water the Ashrama garden, and then make garlands for the “Dev-Pooja.” So, the great sage seeing a plethora of excuses smiled only too well as he knew the avoiding nature of Upamanyu. To this immediately, without batting an eyelid, young Aruni said, “Gurudev, let brother Upamanyu tend the cows here and do the Ashrama work. I am very strong like Bhima-the Pandava prince. I can handle the task alone.” So, Rishi Dhaumya had no reason left but to allow him to go alone to the field and oversee that water was flowing well to a certain field. Aruni went there and found that water is not freely flowing, so he created a mud-wall bund from the nearby mud. A second later, the mud-wall could not withstand the overflowing water and broke the wall that Aruni had made. Again, quickly, Aruni tried; but the water flow was not being stopped from its designated path. Aruni tried to stop water by all means but became unsuccessful. He then lay there using his body to prevent the breach of water. Due to this Aruni did not return to the hermitage. Maharishi Dhaumya with his other disciples, grew worried as it was night and freezingly cold. They all came to the spot in search of Aruni. By now, there was frostbite on Aruni, and fever was raging like a bull; still Aruni who lay unconscious, didn’t give up.

Dhaumya was very pleased upon Aruni and gave him the title, “Uddhalaka--the savior”. Later Aruni became very famous under that title.

1. What was the need for Aruni to be such a staunch supporter of a cause?

2. Why did Aruni not come back to the Ashrama and leave the field to be devastated?

3. What quality of Aruni, do you like to emulate?

4. How do you rate Aruni, a coward or a patriot?

5. Why did Upamanyu not go to the field instead of Aruni?

6. What lesson do you learn from this story?

"A LEARNED MIND."

Once upon a time, as all Vedic period stories begin, so began the story of a Forest-prince. No, I am not talking about Robinhood--the darling prince among thieves, but our very own forest lad; Eklavya.

He grew up in the forest,collecting Honey,Rudraksha beads, Lac,gum,and other assorted berries which got traded for food subsistence,and meagre living in the nearby village. Near the edge of the forest stood a great sage Dronacharya's Ashrama.

He was a sage, who would admit only the princes and royal kings for education.For him, education in any form was not the purview of lowly-caste populace. Hence, he was aptly termed as the "Guru of Royals." In the same Ashrama, Arjuna,Nakula, Sahadeva; the great Pandava Princes had been admitted. They were to become expert archers.

Young Eklavya,also evinced interest in his tender mind, seeing these princes practicising with their Bow-and-Arrows; and one day finally mustered enough courage to ask the great sage Dronacharya for his tutelage. The great sage laughed mockingly. He summoned all the princes and infront of them also again discouraged young Eklavya. Never mind that on that day , with a grief-stricken heart, young Eklavya had to go away dissappointed to the forest.

Second and third day, again he came but the guru would now not be cowed down. Seeing his adamantine posture, Eklavya; went into the forest, and near a dilapidated fort, made a mud statue of his favorite guru. That's Sage Dronacharya. Now he, started fashioning an improvised bow-and-arrow from the available Teak tree. Naturally, with his day and night of practise without rest; his prowress grew by leaps and bounds.

One day a mad-dog entered the Ashrama, and Eklavya was hiding behind the forest thicket.

None of the princes could aim and shoot arrows at the dog. But were successful at driving him away. The dog went into the forest hiding. Eklavya sought his chance to show his Archery prowress, now was the time to display his skill and it was also a test of his ability. One arrow after the another went into the dog's mouth, so much so that the whole mouth was bleeding; and full of arrows. The dog ran in pain again to the river-side, where the great sage Dronacharya and his disciples had come for having a bath.The sage was awestruck at the sight and so were the princes. Who could be a greater Archer here? They asked each other , but all the princes drew their head down in shame. None could have matched the dexterity with which this person had done. Eklavya too followed , the dog. He felt that seeing this , atleast now the Sage Dronacharya would bless him.But the guru quickly knew that if he gave him the blessings , his prestige would be at stake. Also, his tutuelage, the princes would not be known as greater than Eklavya. So, he quickly asked from innocent Eklavya; His right-hand thumb as his "Guru-Dakshina"

Young Eklavya, gave it to him immediately such was the presence of his divine ordinance.

Why does a learned mind falter, in the case of Pandava Princes?
